Your Test Results & Follow-Up

What to expect after lab work, imaging, and biopsy — how and when your results will be communicated, and what to do if you have questions.

Result Timeframes

How Long to Expect

Timeframes vary by the type of test. Use the windows below to know when to expect your results before following up.

Biopsy & Pathology

10–14

Business days from the date of your procedure. Tissue samples are processed by an outside pathology lab, which takes time. Please do not call before this window has passed.

Examples: prostate biopsy, bladder tumor biopsy, skin/penile lesion

Lab Work

Up to 5

Business days for routine labs including PSA, testosterone, urinalysis, metabolic panels, and semen analysis. Most results are available sooner.

Examples: PSA, testosterone, urinalysis, CBC, metabolic panel, semen analysis

Imaging Reports

2–5

Business days for CT, MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray reports read by radiology. Complex studies may take slightly longer. Imaging performed at UTMC is typically available sooner.

Examples: CT urogram, renal ultrasound, pelvic MRI, PSMA PET

How You’ll Hear From Us

How Results Are Communicated

We use two channels to communicate results — the patient portal for routine results and direct contact for anything significant.

Patient Portal (ModMed)

Results are posted to your patient portal automatically as they become available. Lab values, pathology reports, and imaging reads will appear in your portal when finalized. Sign in at universityuro.modmedapp.com.

Direct Contact for Significant Results

If your results are abnormal, require a treatment decision, or need follow-up action, your provider or APP will contact you directly — by phone call or Klara message. Please ensure your contact information on file is current.

If you have not been contacted after the published window

Send a message through Klara to follow up. Include your name, date of birth, the type of test, and the approximate date it was performed. Do not call the office for routine result inquiries — Klara allows us to investigate and respond without placing you on hold.

What Happens Next

From Results to Next Steps

Understanding what comes after your results helps reduce anxiety and unnecessary calls.

1

Results finalized by the lab or radiology

Once your test is complete, results are processed by the performing lab or radiology group. This step is outside our control and accounts for most of the wait time.

2

Results reviewed by your provider or APP

Your care team reviews results as they arrive and assesses whether any action is needed. Routine normal results are posted to the portal. Abnormal or actionable results are flagged for follow-up.

3

You are contacted if follow-up is needed

If your results require a treatment change, additional testing, a follow-up appointment, or a significant discussion, your provider or APP will reach out directly. If your results are normal and no action is needed, they will be posted to the portal without a separate call.

4

You check the portal or follow up via Klara

If you haven’t heard back and your results window has passed, check the patient portal first. If results are not yet available in the portal after the published window, send a Klara message to follow up.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

My biopsy was last week. Can I call for results?

Biopsy pathology takes 10–14 business days from the procedure date. Please allow this full window before following up. We understand waiting is difficult — your provider will contact you directly as soon as results are available and reviewed.

I can see a result in the portal but I don’t understand what it means.

Send a Klara message asking for clarification. Include the test name and date. Your provider or APP will respond with an explanation. For biopsy or imaging results, a follow-up appointment may be scheduled to review findings in detail.

My result is in the portal and it shows a value outside the normal range. Should I be worried?

Not necessarily. Many lab values are flagged as outside the normal range but are clinically insignificant in context. If your result required action, your provider would have contacted you. If you have concerns, send a Klara message and your team will clarify.

My result window has passed and it’s not in the portal yet. What should I do?

Send a Klara message with your name, date of birth, the test type, and approximate date performed. Our team will investigate whether the result has been received and update you. Occasional delays from external labs or radiology groups do occur.

How do I access the patient portal?

Sign in at universityuro.modmedapp.com using your ModMed account. If you need help setting up portal access, send a Klara message and our team can assist.

My lab was done at Labcorp. Where do I find those results?

Labcorp results are also viewable through the Labcorp patient portal at labcorp.com/patients. Results will also appear in your University Urology portal once reviewed by your provider.
