About Dr. White

Dr. White is a native of Knoxville and a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, graduating in 2003 with Highest Honors. He returned to UT Medical Center, where he completed his urology residency from 2003 to 2008.
Dr. White subsequently completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Urologic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He currently serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine.
Dr. White is recognized in Newsweek’s 2024 Best Prostate Cancer Surgeons list and brings fellowship-trained expertise in robotic oncologic surgery to patients across East Tennessee. His clinical focus centers on prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and small renal masses, with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive and robotic approaches.

Dr. White’s fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic focused on advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques for urologic malignancies. He brings that expertise to patients across East Tennessee, with a particular focus on prostate and kidney cancer surgery.
Prostate Cancer
Comprehensive prostate cancer evaluation and management including elevated PSA workup, transperineal biopsy, staging, and treatment planning. Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy for localized disease. Recognized by Newsweek as one of the best prostate cancer surgeons nationally for 2024. Active surveillance management for appropriately selected patients.
Kidney Cancer & Renal Masses
Evaluation and surgical management of renal masses, including robotic partial nephrectomy for nephron-sparing surgery and radical nephrectomy for larger or more complex tumors. Small renal mass surveillance protocols for patients who are candidates for active monitoring rather than immediate surgery.
Robotic & Laparoscopic Surgery
Fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic in advanced minimally invasive urologic surgery. Da Vinci robotic-assisted procedures for prostatectomy and nephrectomy offer shorter hospital stays, reduced blood loss, and faster recovery compared to open surgery for appropriately selected patients.
Bladder Cancer & General Oncology
Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) management including TURBT, surveillance cystoscopy, and intravesical therapy. Hematuria evaluation. General urology across satellite clinic locations including Tazewell and Northshore, with complex or high-risk cases managed at UTMC Knoxville.
